3 Townhead, Kilmaurs, Kilmarnock
This Grade C listed mid-terraced cottage in the conservation area of Kilmaurs was in need of a breathable external coating.
The acrylic based coating was peeling off the lime render and cement based repairs like a plastic coat. The owner, Rita McKerrow, discovered KEIM following her conversation with Crown Paints on this matter.
KEIM’s Senior Sales Executive for Scotland, Tony Carter, contacted Rita to arrange a visit to her property in the village of Kilmaurs. Tony advised Rita what was required for the restoration and redecoration of her painted listed building during his site visit.
Tony visited the property a few times to see if Rita required any help or advice while the stripping stage was taking place.
Rita commented: “I was 71 years old but I love a challenge and spent many hours removing old paint and cement, this was followed by pressure wash to remove dust etc. I then employed a local firm to restore walls, window and door frames, followed by painting with KEIM Royalan, which I applied myself which resulted in a really good job.”
This is a lovely example showing that anyone can apply KEIM and it was a pleasure working with Rita on her home.
