Montalto House, Ballynahinch, Northern Ireland
Montalto House is a late 18th Century, Georgian mansion set in 400 acres of beautiful Irish countryside, near Ballynahinch in Northern Ireland. The house was built by the Rawdon Family, the Earl of Moira, and is a Grade B+ listed building. The building underwent extensive internal renovations, which were completed in 2010, under the careful watch of John J. O’Connell Architects. When they were commissioned to consider the external facade of the building in 2012, John J. O’Connell contacted KEIM Mineral Paints to discuss lime render finishes.
Much of the existing render had become unsound and it was decided to remove all of it back to the stone substrate and completely re-render. Due to the age and listed status of the building it was essential that a extremely breathable, Natural Hydraulic Lime (NHL) material was specified with the appropriate strength and flexibility to avoid cracking and crazing which is common with traditional lime renders.
KEIM NHL KalkPutz
KEIM NHL KalkPutz is new to the UK, with Montalto House being the first specified and completed project, but has been used for many years by KEIM in Germany and other worldwide KEIM subsidiaries. It is a multipurpose Natural Hydraulic Lime (NHL) render suitable for both manual and machine application, and for interior, exterior and damp areas. KEIM NHL Kalkputz can be used as a complete lime render system and also for patch repair of existing NHL rendered facades, over large or in localised areas.
