New Court, Trinity College, Cambridge

Trinity College is a constituent College of the University of Cambridge. It was established in 1546 by King Henry VIII of England. The New Court and courts on the other side of Trinity Street were built in the 19th century. The college has produced 32 Nobel Prize winners since they were first introduced and awarded in 1901.

The college wanted a durable alternative to limewash. Nicola Young, Senior Colourist of KEIM Mineral Paints had previously visited site and completed a sample for the inner courtyard, which was approved by the college.

The college liked the finish of the inner courtyard and wanted to have the same consistency on the outer elevation of the building.

KEIM Soldalit Fixativ was applied onto the newly repaired lime areas to help reduce surface porosity. KEIM Soldalit Grob was used over the surfaces to equalise textural variations from the repairs. A two-coat application of KEIM Soldalit K6183 (a bespoke colour) was applied, followed by the KEIM Restauro Lasur K6186 (a bespoke colour) system to create a colour wash effect.

As well as the benefits provided by applying a mineral finish, the system gives a natural and high-quality aesthetic finish in keeping with the other parts of the building.
