Nationwide Building Society was originally formed in 1884 as The Southern Co-operative Permanent Building Society, which later officially became Nationwide in 1970, with 605 branches to date.
Nationwide Building Society undertook the refurbishment of its Merthyr Tydfil branch as part of a wider programme across the South West of England. This project is the third Nationwide site in the region to use KEIM Mineral Paints as part of a phased upgrade which follows a refurbishment at Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol. It aligns with a long-term strategy to improve durability, reduce maintenance cycles, and achieve consistent brand aesthetics across multiple locations.
The main facades areas were previously painted smooth render, and a new cement boar was installed to the lower grey band details. To cover textural differences, KEIM Contact Plus was specified.
KEIM Soldalit-ME, a sol-silicate paint combining the benefits of traditional silicate technology with enhanced adhesion to previously coated surfaces was applied as a finishing coat. Selected for its durability, colour stability, and resistance to environmental pollutants.
Colours for the Merthyr Tydfil branch were carefully matched to existing Nationwide sites in the South West. As part of a growing portfolio of Nationwide projects, it reinforces the long-term value of mineral paint systems in delivering durability, aesthetic consistency, and reduced maintenance costs.
