2 Purclewan Mill, Dalrymple
2 Purclewan Mill in Dalrymple is a large private dwelling built in 2005. When we visited the property it was suffering from severe contamination of moss, algae and red algae. Red algae, which is also known as Rhodophyta, is an algae variation derived from a type of seaweed. It is getting much more prolific throughout the UK and Ireland, especially in costal environments. It is not ‘coming through’ the paint, but rather living and breeding on the surface. It certainly looks like it is coming through, due to the very distinct pattern it creates which looks like it is running out, and down, the surfaces – people often use the phrase ‘look like the walls are bleeding’ to describe it. KEIM Mycal Ex was specified to remove the red algae followed by two coats of the KEIM Royalan system to give a long lasting, high performance coating.
